The Guild Spotlight

Welcome to the Guild of Artistic Temperament! We are a virtual community of artists and makers from around the UK. The Guild grew from a response to some of the issues that small creative business owners suddenly faced during Covid – in particular – being unable/feeling unsafe to sell in person at craft fairs.

In 2020, for the first time, Etsy held their annual seller’s event online, and while our sister Etsy Team: IDEAS Birmingham took part, we began to feel that sellers who did not have a presence on Etsy were excluded at a time of need.

The IDEAS Birmingham team decided to hold our own online fair, away from Etsy, so that we could open applications to non-Etsy sellers too. This experience was so positive that it led us to want to be even more inclusive and allow us to invite more online maker friends, not just those local to Birmingham, to join forces with us. Thus – The Guild of Artistic Temperament was born!

Our market at the Custard Factory and our vision for handmade markets

Makers First

Our events put makers before platforms, so we’re open to makers from all platforms, including websites.

Handmade

We welcome creatives of handmade from across the UK, focusing on themed events to help showcase handmade gifts.

Vintage

Vintage sellers are also welcome at our events. We love the nostalgia and excitement that it brings to an event.

Supplies & kits

It’s never been a better time to buy handmade kits and supplies, so we also welcome supply sellers to our events.

Halloween Handmade 2021

We tested out the concept of an online event that was open to makers and sellers from all platforms with our sister team, IDEAS Birmingham, by hosting Halloween Handmade 2021 market together. We had a lot of fun! We’re bringing it back for 2022.

Our aims!

While sales are important, the main goal of all our of events is to make selling more fun. We all enjoy making, but the selling part isn’t always the fun part, and our aim is to change that.

“We have a lot of fun during our events, it’s our main goal. While we focus on fun, we are promoting our wares, we expand the reach of our shops and our makes and forge new friendships.”

“The Guild is a brilliant group to belong to. It’s great to be able to be part of a creative community, where you can both fit in; but you can also be your authentic, individual self!”
